Kingwood Ballet

Mission

Kingwood Ballet endeavors to fulfill our two-fold goal of presenting professional quality  performing arts productions in the community and providing dancers with increased and challenging performance opportunities to enhance their training.

About

Seasonal

Kingwood Ballet is a DBA of Kingwood Dance Theatre, a non-profit 501(c)3, pre-professional performing ballet company serving citizens in northeast Houston and surrounding communities. Kingwood Ballet was founded by Sheryl Rowland in 1984 when she recognized a void in the performing arts, specifically dance, in the Kingwood, Texas area north of Houston. Since then, Kingwood Ballet's professional quality productions remain a family friendly and affordable alternative to the travel-burdened and more costly venues in downtown Houston.

Under the current direction of Kelly Agnew, Kingwood Ballet continues to focus on providing excellent training for our dancers and quality productions and opportunities for the communities of northeast Harris & Montgomery counties.

Alongside the contracted professional dancers, and our pre-professional dancers, Kingwood Ballet has about 130-150 young dancers who train and perform annually in our productions. Their involvement in Kingwood Ballet helps in their development of life skills of confidence, teamwork, discipline and perseverance. Their involvement also engages the younger members of our audience and introduces them to the arts.

Kingwood Ballet is proud to be recognized as an Honor Company in Regional Dance America/Southwest Region. Regional Dance America (RDA) is a nation-wide organization of pre-professional dance companies and ensembles with a mission to inspire a community of excellence in dance education and performance.

Kingwood Ballet offers the following each season:

Sugar Plum Tea:

An immersive community event featuring a mini-Nutcracker performance, pictures with costumed cast members, dancer meet and greets, and the "Sugar Plum Salon" hosted by the apprentice company and geared towards young children. Food and desserts are made by KB volunteers to produce the intimacy of a Tea environment. The Sugar Plum Tea is a great opportunity for young children who are not quite ready to sit through a full-length to experience the ballet in a bite-size, digestible way.

The Nutcracker Ballet:

A full length production of this beloved ballet. Kingwood Ballet first presented this ballet in 1986 and quickly became a community tradition. In 2023, Kingwood Ballet debuted an all-new version of this ballet complete with fresh costumes, choreography, props and sets, and performed to sold-out audiences.

Ballet Gala:

Presented at the Hobby Center's Zilkha Hall in downtown Houston, the Ballet Gala features an evening of classical ballet, contemporary ballet, modern and jazz dances.

Story Ballet:

A full length storybook ballet in two acts curated for audiences of all ages. Kingwood Ballet produces four shows over the course of a weekend. Presented in dinner-theater format offering a unique and engaging experience to audience members.
